Bath National Gala Competition - Feb 2013

Things were going well in the 19+ Fig B Grade with Carolyne achieving a Nationals place, with Kelly just outside. Unfortunately for Juliette, a mistake in her 1st routine resulted saw her relegated to grade C for the next Gala which takes place in Wales. At Gala events, the time of flight (air-time) is calculated by a machine and benefits high jumpers. The team have been working hard on clean simple routines performed very high. Towards the end of the event, the timing machine failed and so time of flight was removed from all the 19+ contestants. When the order was recalculated, both Carolyne & Kelly were not in the Nationals qualifying places which was a very unsatisfactory outcome, but no end of protest could remedy the matter on the day. Small comfort to Carolyne, but I understand a different protocol will be introduced at the next Gala so this situation can't ever be repeated. It was better news on the Sunday in the C Grade, as Lydia completed two solid routines to retain her place at National Grade C, and Alex used a double front/half twist (half-out) for the first time, for a new tariff PB of 6.5, only narrowly failing to qualify for the Grade C National finals. Best of luck to the team for the Cardiff Gala on 13/14 April!
